10 Inspiring Music Books for Kids (Babies to Early School Age)

A selection of books that turn reading into a musical experience

Music books can be so much more than stories. From the earliest years, they help children feel rhythm, movement, imagination and connection in a very natural way 🎶

In this selection of music books for kids, from babies to early school age, I’m sharing titles that go beyond reading. These are stories that sing, move and invite children to take part, turning everyday reading into something shared, playful and musical.

You can enjoy them at bedtime, during playtime or in the classroom. However you use them, they create small musical moments between adults and children, at home or in early learning settings 💛

3. Old McDonald Had a Farm

A timeless classic that never gets old!

Old MacDonald is one of those songs every child loves, and this touch-and-feel edition makes it even more engaging. The interactive textures let kids explore while singing along, helping kids learn animal sounds in a fun, playful way. It’s a wonderful way to spark laughter, movement, and connection during storytime.

4. Giraffe Can’t Dance

A beautiful story about confidence and finding your own rhythm.

This book is perfect to encourage movement and self-expression. It gently shows children that everyone dances in their own unique way. This particular version I’m recommending comes in a big size, more attractive for everyone to explore.

5. Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

A favorite song that always gets everyone involved!

This is one of those songs toddlers absolutely love and the best part is, everyone already knows it. I love it because it also introduces early counting, and little ones quickly start anticipating what comes next, which makes it even more exciting. The story is playful and funny, and this particular version is lovely choice for everyone.

6. Harold Finds a Voice

A lovely story about discovering your voice.

This book gently encourages children to sing, speak, and express themselves freely. Through Harold’s journey, little ones discover that every voice is unique and valuable. It’s a lovely way to inspire confidence, creativity, and self-expression. Maybe the next step is to find your singing voice… why not?

7. Little Children Music Book

A playful introduction to instruments and sounds.

This book is a wonderful way for kids to start exploring music. Colorful illustrations and simple explanations invite children to notice different instruments, recognize rhythms, and experiment with sounds. A lovely way to spend time together.

8. My First Keyboard Book

A playful first step into making music.

Each note has its own color, and children can match the sounds to the colors. This makes learning the keyboard fun, visual, and super accessible for little ones. Familiar tunes like Twinkle Twinkle, Frère Jacques, and Ode to Joy let them experiment with sounds and enjoy creating their own little songs.

9. Your Name Is a Song

A beautiful celebration of identity through music.

This story gently shows children that every name has its own rhythm and melody. It opens the door to conversations about identity, respect, and belonging in such a simple and meaningful way. A lovely invitation to play with names, repeat them, and maybe even turn them into your own little song.

10. Easy Piano Sheet Music for Kids

A gentle first step into playing real piano music.

A different kind of book in this list, but one I really wanted to include. This is not a storybook, but a very friendly introduction to playing the piano in a simple and accessible way.

The melodies are easy to follow, and children quickly recognize familiar tunes like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Baa Baa Black Sheep. I’ve used it both with my own children and with my students, and it always creates that special moment of “I can actually play this".
